Sunrise with Madrigal: a unique recital by the sea

The „Madrigal – Marin Constantin” National Chamber Choir, conducted by Anna  Ungureanu, together with actor Marius Manole, gave a world-first recital at sunrise by the sea in Constanța this morning.
The recital featured Romanian choral compositions by Corneliu Cezar, Mihai Moldovan and Sabin Păutza.

Almost 600 people attended the distinctive event organised by the „Madrigal – Marin Constantin” National Chamber Choir on the Constanța Casino promenade today, 14 August.  At 06:07 AM, the audience welcomed the sunrise to music performed by the Madrigal Choir, conducted by Anna Ungureanu. The Madrigal Choir’s recital included a spoken contribution by actor Marius Manole. Abel Corban played the organ.

The scene was completed by a Coast Guard vessel at sea, which saluted the Madrigal Choir and the audience throughout the recital. The Coast Guard, represented by Chief Commissioner Alexandru Oae, also presented the Madrigal Choir with a boatswain’s whistle as a mark of respect for organising the Ave Maria Tour to celebrate  Navy Day.

Events continue today on the Constanța Casino promenade with a folk music evening as part of Cantus Mundi Fest, where children from Cantus Mundi choirs will sing alongside Ducu Bertzi, Mircea Baniciu and Emeric Imre, and on 15 and 16 August with the „Ave Maria” Extraordinary Performance, co-produced with Primăria Constanța.
