Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal-Marin Constantin” once again brings audiences the music and special atmosphere of the festive season through its traditional special Christmas concert, conducted by Anna Ungureanu.
The event is being recorded under exceptional circumstances in partnership with Muzeul Național de Artă al României and will be available free of charge on the Madrigal Choir’s website, www.madrigal.ro, through the online Madrigal App. The app will launch on 23 December 2020 and can easily be downloaded onto any electronic device for viewing.
„We are together again at Christmas, even if we are not meeting in concert halls. This year, precisely because it is so difficult for everyone, we decided to give our special Christmas concert and, through technology, bring both the emotion of music and the beauty of the Madrigal Choir in performance into the homes of Romanians, wherever they may be in the world. Madrigal is adapting to the times and, supported by a prestigious partnership with Muzeul Național de Artă al României, returns in December to offer audiences the unique feeling of this eagerly awaited season and, we hope, a little of the normality of Christmas. The recording of the Christmas concert 2020 complements the series of carol albums we recently released with Roton Music and continues a tradition we honour every year, regardless of the circumstances” – said Emil Pantelimon, Manager of Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal – Marin Constantin
Performed without an audience – unprecedented in the past 52 years – the special Christmas concert 2020 was filmed in Sala Tronului at Muzeul Național de Artă al României, a grand, iconic setting with particular cultural and historical significance. Created as a striking visual production, the Madrigal Choir’s Christmas concert includes images from MNAR’s Galeria de Artă Veche Românească, which enhance the choir’s sound and stage presence while enriching the viewers’ artistic experience.
„We are delighted to host the Madrigal Choir’s Christmas concert, giving the artists the opportunity to continue a tradition more than half a century old. Through this concert, we hope to bring the spirit of the festive season into people’s homes through a beautiful combination of art and music” – said Cristina Verona Tobi, Interim Manager of Muzeul Național de Artă al României.
Anna Ungureanu, the Madrigal Choir’s Principal conductor, has prepared a special repertoire for this concert, intended to create an organic connection between the classical and the modern, from familiar Romanian and international carols to complex and diverse musical arrangements.
„We were very keen to give this concert, which is so dear to us as Madrigal singers, and are delighted that once again this year we can share our warm wishes and the musical magic of Christmas with the Madrigal Choir. In harmony with the space in which we sang, we chose to perform some of the most loved and impressive Christmas pieces, from wonderful carols to outstanding works by Paul Constantinescu, Johann Sebastian Bach and many contemporary composers – a repertoire that brings peace, beauty and the spirit of the festive season” – Anna Ungureanu, Principal conductor of Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal – Marin Constantin”.
The special Christmas concert of Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal-Marin Constantin” is one of Romania’s longest-running and most consistent cultural events. For more than half a century, every December, the Madrigal Choir has connected with audiences and heralded the celebration of Christ’s birth on major stages in Bucharest and across the country.
In this year’s exceptional circumstances, the Madrigal Choir remains committed to its connection with audiences and is introducing another innovative product: the online Madrigal App, dedicated to concerts and events by the celebrated ensemble. It can be accessed and viewed on electronic devices (laptops, televisions, etc.) from 23 December 2020 through www.madrigal.ro.
