On 16 and 17 December 2021 at 19:00, the Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal – Marin Constantin” and the Programul Național Cantus Mundi invite audiences to the extraordinary performance „Pe drumul Crăciunului” at the Opera Națională București. The event’s special guests are the actors Ofelia Popii and Marius Turdeanu.
For over half a century, Romanians have associated the sound of the celebration of the Nativity with the Madrigal Choir, whose Christmas concerts are one of Romania’s longest-standing and most enduring cultural traditions.
The celebrated ensemble, conducted by Anna Ungureanu, has prepared an unprecedented performance, bringing together the Madrigal Choir’s unique sound, theatre, impressive set design and an exceptional blend of the choir’s voices with those of over 100 children from the Programul Național Cantus Mundi. The actors Ofelia Popii and Marius Turdeanu complete this project with literary elements that heighten the performance’s emotional narrative.
The event is directed and scripted by Emil Pantelimon, with set design by Vladimir Turturică. The dramatic texts were selected by Mădălin Guruianu and will take audiences through a dynamic emotional sequence, from „Cântarea Cântărilor” to poems by Eugen Jebeleanu, Lucian Blaga and Costache Ioanid and texts by Khaled Hosseini, Saint Tereza de Avila and Paulo Coelho.
The guest actors in „Pe drumul Crăciunului” are Ofelia Popii and Marius Turdeanu, two of Romania’s most acclaimed and award-winning actors, vibrant artistic personalities who bring extra dynamism to the much-anticipated traditional Christmas concert of the Madrigal Choir.
