The „Madrigal – Marin Constantin” National Chamber Choir and Centrul de Cultură Arcuș are opening the eighth exhibition in the anniversary series Galeria „Madrigal 60”, inviting the public to discover artists Vasile and Mihai Ostahi and the works they are dedicating to the Madrigal Choir.
The opening will mark the end of the first exhibition season of Galeria „Madrigal 60” and will take place on Thursday, 22 June, from 19:00 at the Madrigal Choir’s headquarters at Aleea Dealul Mitropoliei 11, București. "Madrigal’s 60th year brings a first in the visual arts. We are halfway through the year, and there are already over 35 paintings depicting the choir, the conductor or Casa Madrigal in varied and original ways. 9 visual artists have immersed themselves in our Choir’s unmistakable sound, letting its magic guide their creativity. This is the most beautiful way to preserve the energy of sound waves for eternity: painted on canvas. I thank them: Corina Preda-Perianu, Laurențiu Midvichi, Emanuel Chiriac, Virgiliu Parghel, Marinella Dumitrescu, Dan Palade, Lucia Juncu, Vasile Ostahi and Mihai Ostahi; and we look forward to seeing you at Art Safari in the autumn!” – said Emil Pantelimon, Manager of the „Madrigal – Marin Constantin” National Chamber Choir
Father and son Vasile and Mihai Ostahi bring the magic of art from their studios in Chișinău to the heart of Bucharest. Having travelled especially for their artistic residency at Casa Madrigal, painters Vasile and Mihai Ostahi will exhibit recent works created during the Madrigal Choir’s rehearsals, alongside selected works from their personal collections, at Galeria „Madrigal 60”.
Their remarkable works feature in solo and group exhibitions and in private and museum collections in prestigious destinations including Canada, Italy, France, Great Britain, Romania and the United States of America. With consummate skill in oil on canvas, Vasile and Mihai Ostahi create works that convey emotion and resonance in every brushstroke. Each work is a window into their inner world, inviting us to explore and enjoy a unique artistic experience that awakens the imagination and challenges the senses.
Vasile Ostahi draws inspiration from the beauty of nature, capturing compelling impressions of landscapes on canvas and inviting us on an imaginative journey through nature’s allure.
Mihai Ostahi has explored music as a source of inspiration, capturing talented instrumentalists in moments of creativity in his works. Before his residency at Casa Madrigal, he created works full of passion and emotion, capturing the expressiveness of music in a unique and compelling way.
Housed in the imposing interwar villa on Dealul Mitropoliei in Bucharest, Galeria „Madrigal 60” is a cross-disciplinary project dedicated to music and the visual arts, organised by the „Madrigal – Marin Constantin” National Chamber Choir in collaboration with Centrul de Cultură Arcuș. During the first season of artistic residencies, from March – June 2023, nine contemporary visual artists were invited to create and exhibit: Corina Preda-Perianu, Laurențiu Midvichi, Emanuel Chiriac, Virgiliu Parghel, Marinella Dumitrescu, Dan Palade, Lucia Juncu, Vasile Ostahi and Mihai Ostahi.
After the first exhibition season ends, the Madrigal Choir will continue to promote the visual artists’ works to the public throughout 2023, both at events in the anniversary programme and by including them in the Galeria artistică „MADRIGAL 60”, which will be hosted by Art Safari from 22 September – 10 December in Bucharest.
The Galeria „Madrigal 60” project forms part of the anniversary programme marking 60 years of uninterrupted activity, musical excellence and cultural diplomacy by the Madrigal Choir, which has become a symbol of sustained artistic achievement in Romania and of the country’s cultural relevance and image worldwide.
