On Thursday, 10 April, at 19:00, the National Chamber Choir „Madrigal – Marin Constantin”, conducted by Anna Ungureanu, invites audiences in Pitești to the Extraordinary Performance „Săptămâna Patimilor”.

„The Extraordinary Performance «Săptămâna Patimilor» looks back at the last week of Jesus’s life. From joy and life to agony and then ecstasy, from light to darkness and back to light, the performance takes the audience on a carousel of emotions”- said Emil Pantelimon, manager of the National Chamber Choir „Madrigal – Marin Constantin” and director of the performance.
In „Săptămâna Patimilor”, the National Chamber Choir „Madrigal – Marin Constantin” turns the audience into witnesses to Jesus’s last week on earth, in an emotionally charged performance that tells the story of Holy Week through music, dramatic art, lighting design and set design.
Drawing on Romanian and international sacred music, the performance includes excerpts from the celebrated „Florilegiu bizantin” – the impressive collection of Easter music compiled by Marin Constantin, founder of the Madrigal Choir, or an excerpt from the „Credo” in W. A. Mozart’s „Missa în do minor”, as well as many other emblematic sacred compositions.
The profound artistic experience will be complemented by texts from world literature performed by actors Marius Turdeanu and Theo Marton, and by the voices of children from choirs in the Cantus Mundi National Programme in Argeș County and the region.
The Extraordinary Performance „Săptămâna Patimilor” is directed and scripted by Emil Pantelimon, with set design by Vladimir Turturica and organisation by Leila Popovici.
The celebrated ensemble’s performance in Pitești is part of the Extraordinary Easter Tour, taking place from 1 – 24 April 2025 in seven cities in Romania: Câmpina, Bacău, Pitești, Râmnicu Vâlcea, Timișoara, București and Sfântu Gheorghe, Covasna County.
The Madrigal Choir’s tour is part of the „Marin Constantin 100” programme, celebrating 100 years since the birth of Maestro Marin Constantin, the ensemble’s founder.
