Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal-Marin Constantin” presents its traditional special Easter concert.
The event, conducted by Anna Ungureanu and Cezar-Mihail Verlan, was recorded in partnership with Muzeul Național de Artă al României and will be available from Holy Saturday, 1 May, in the online application Madrigal App, where it can be watched free of charge.

„Remaining faithful to a tradition spanning more than half a century, we are meeting our audience again this year, even if that meeting is made possible by technology. We recorded this Easter concert with joy and hope alongside our partners at Muzeul Național de Artă al României, and, with the Madrigal viewing app, we hope to reach the hearts and homes of those awaiting the light of the Resurrection. In this difficult period, alongside the two Easter albums, the Madrigal Choir’s special Easter concert reaches viewers as an invitation to reflection and a bridge between the beauty and emotion of music and the anticipation of Christianity’s most significant celebration, Easter” – said Emil Pantelimon, Manager of Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal – Marin Constantin.

Recorded without an audience in the impressive setting of Muzeul Național de Artă al României, the special Easter concert features a repertoire chosen specifically to mark Christianity’s central feast, with Romanian works inspired by the Orthodox tradition. The two conductors of Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal-Marin Constantin”, Anna Ungureanu – the ensemble’s Principal conductor – and Cezar-Mihail Verlan – its Assistant conductor – have prepared a musical journey through the sacred chronology of the days leading up to the Saviour’s Resurrection. It closes on a bright „beginning” – „Hristos anesti!/ Hristos a înviat!”, part of the celebrated „Florilegiu bizantin”, arranged by Marin Constantin.

The special Easter concert will be available free of charge from 1 May 2021 on Madrigal App, the online application dedicated to concerts and events by the celebrated ensemble. By simply creating a user account, viewers can access and watch it on electronic devices (laptops, televisions, etc.). Also on Holy Saturday, the concert will premiere on the Madrigal Choir’s Facebook account.

Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal – Marin Constantin” is an emblem of Romanian and international musical life. Since its founding in 1963 by conductor Marin Constantin (1925–2011), the Madrigal Choir has given over 4.500 concerts acclaimed around the world, establishing itself as a true „national brand”. It is one of the world’s benchmarks for chamber choral music, with a repertoire focused on the European Renaissance, Byzantine music, and contemporary Romanian and international works.
In November 2016, Corul Naţional de Cameră „Madrigal – Marin Constantin” was officially recognised as an Ambassador of Freedom, Hope and Peace, receiving the „Jean Nussbaum and Eleanor Roosevelt” award at the United Nations Palace in Geneva during the Global Summit on Religion, Peace and Security.
This year, Madrigal marked 58 years of uninterrupted activity, making it one of Europe’s longest-established and most highly regarded choral ensembles.

Muzeul Național de Artă al României was established in 1948, when it was given the use of the former Royal Palace on Calea Victoriei in Bucharest, which had been severely damaged by bombing in 1944. From the outset, the museum had an encyclopaedic scope, bringing together varied collections of Romanian, European and Oriental art. It preserves the most representative collection of Romanian medieval and modern art, an indispensable resource for understanding Romanian visual culture. Open to the general public since 1950, MNAR now comprises Galeria Națională (including Galeria de Artă Veche Românească and Galeria de Artă Românească Modernă), Galeria de Artă Europeană, and the historic spaces of the former Royal Palace (Sala Tronului, Sufrageria Regală and Scara Voievozilor).
