Starting this year, Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal – Marin Constantin” is running a nationwide research programme in music therapy, using the human voice – the Madrigal voice – as its instrument. Dedicated to researching the effects of music therapy on babies, expectant mothers and parents, the „Madrigal for Babies” national research programme will be coordinated by musician and music therapist Angelica Postu. It will bring together specialists from various fields to conduct nationwide studies and develop international collaborations in this area.

The „Madrigal for Babies” national research programme, run by Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal – Marin Constantin” in partnership with Asociația Română de Muzicoterapie, was launched at a press conference on 16 January 2023, attended by the Madrigal team and Minister of Culture Raluca Turcan.

„From my perspective as Minister of Culture, this component is important and I will support it with all my strength – opening the Madrigal cultural institution to new audiences and providing scientific arguments for the cultural offering made available to people. Music educates and develops skills such as memory, attention and listening. I believe that the performances Madrigal will offer audiences provide support for an important part of our society – mothers, young families, children and babies.” – Raluca Turcan, Minister of Culture

Started as a pilot project in 2023 with musician and music therapist Angelica Postu, president of Asociația Română de Muzicoterapie, the „Madrigal for Babies” concept was introduced to Bucharest audiences last summer at a concert for babies and pregnant women.

„Exposing children to music as they develop helps them learn sounds and understand the meanings of words emotionally and cognitively. Music also strengthens the emotional bond between children and parents, benefiting their wellbeing. For the first time, this research programme, with its immense potential, gives us the chance to make Romania an international point of reference for research into the effects of music on us. I am convinced that researching the short- and long-term effects of music on babies is only the beginning, and that we will also direct our attention and resources towards other age groups.” – Angelica Postu, coordinator of the „Madrigal for Babies” research programme

The research programme „Madrigal for Babies – muzicoterapie dedicată bebelușilor. mămicilor gravide și părinților” continues Corul Madrigal’s ongoing commitment to studying and promoting music nationwide for the youngest listeners. The programme will run in partnership with Asociația Română de Muzicoterapie and in collaboration with Universitatea Națională de Muzică din București and Universitatea de Medicină și Farmacie „Carol Davila” din București.
