Bucharest – Berlin, 27 April 2022
On Friday, 29 April, at 19:30 (DE), Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal – Marin Constantin” will appear in the concert season of Berlin’s celebrated Pierre Boulez Saal, as part of BOULEZ ENSAMBLE XLII – Stravinsky.

Corul Madrigal will participate in the chamber concert conducted by Matthias Pintscher and dedicated to the music and personality of composer Igor Stravinsky. The Romanian choral ensemble will join BOULEZ ENSAMBLE XLII for „Les Noces”, composed by Igor Stravinsky for soloists, choir, four pianos and percussion.

„We are delighted to accept the invitation from Pierre Boulez Saal and Barenboim-Said Akademie, originally scheduled for 2019 and postponed because of the pandemic. We are part of a remarkable international cast and have already spent several days rehearsing with instrumentalists and soloists from around the world for Friday’s eagerly awaited meeting with German audiences” – said Emil Pantelimon, Manager of Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal – Marin Constantin”.

The Stravinsky tribute concert explores different stages of the composer’s creative life through „Octet for Winds” and „Symphonies of Wind Instruments”, alongside the complex „Les Noces”  – „Nunta”/„Scene coregrafice cu muzică și soliști”, based on a libretto the composer adapted from a traditional wedding ritual in the Kyiv region.

„Les Noces” was composed by Igor Stravinsky between 1914 and 1923, when it was also presented in Paris, initially as ballet music, and dedicated to the celebrated Serge Diaghilev. It is an impressive, original and intense score, in melody and rhythm as well as its architecture of sound. We have been working on it for some time and cannot wait to perform it on Friday here in Berlin at Pierre Boulez Saal” – Anna Ungureanu, Principal Conductor of Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal – Marin Constantin”.

Now one of Berlin’s most important and modern concert institutions, Pierre Boulez Saal opened in 2017 at the initiative of celebrated conductor Daniel Barenboim. With a unique, modular architectural design in which there is no separation between stage and auditorium, Pierre Boulez Saal is considered the „public face” of Berlin’s Barenboim-Said Akademie music academy, which carries forward the famous West-Eastern Divan Orchestra initiative.
Like Pierre Boulez Saal, the innovative project series Boulez Ensemble is founded above all on flexibility and variety in programming. Artists from around the world are invited to each event to explore music „as diversely and deeply as possible, irrespective of boundaries of time or space”.
