On Wednesday, 2 November, Corul Național de Cameră „Madrigal – Marin Constantin”, conducted by Anna Ungreanu, will present the special performance „Muzica Renașterii Europene” at the Kolarac Grand Concert Hall in Belgrade.
Corul Madrigal will visit Serbia at the invitation of the organisers of BEMUS – Belgrade Music Festival – Edition 54, the neighbouring country’s oldest and most prominent classical music festival.

The project „Muzica Renașterii Europene” is part of the series of concept performances developed by the renowned choral ensemble over the past three years. These productions take an innovative approach that brings art forms together, combining the ensemble’s unique sound with related elements of theatre, literature, set design and video art. The performance presents the European Renaissance as a symbol, with staging supported by video mapping and lighting design that illustrates both the cultural flowering of the Renaissance era and the contemporary European musical renaissance.

The first part of the programme, conducted by Anna Ungureanu, includes madrigals and motets by Thomas Morley, Orlando di Lasso, Juan del Encina, Hans Leo Hassler, Giovanni Gastoldi, Josquin des Prés and Johann Hermann Schein. In the second part, Corul Madrigal will present works by contemporary European composers such as Vytautas Miškinis, Knut Nystedt and Serbian composer Stevan Mokranjac, alongside Romanians Cornelia Tăutu, Alexandru Pașcanu, Paul Constantinescu and Grigore Cudalbu.

The first performance of the special production „Muzica Renașterii Europene” took place on 9 June 2022 in Zagreb, Croatia, where it was warmly and enthusiastically received by almost 2.000 spectators.
The stage direction for „Muzica Renașterii Europene” is by Emil Pantelimon, with lighting design coordinated by Alin Popa and video mapping by Dorin Popovici.

Founded in 1969, BEMUS – Belgrade Music Festival is one of South-Eastern Europe’s most prestigious classical music festivals. By presenting a particularly attractive selection of international programmes, BEMUS has also established its reputation as a cultural event of special importance to Serbia’s capital.
