About the performance

We welcome Easter, the Feast of Feasts, at the special Madrigal: Săptămâna Patimilor performance in the Aula Magna of Politehnica University of Bucharest.

From the joy of entering the city to the Saviour’s moments of agony on the Cross, the Madrigal Choir invites audiences to witness Jesus’s final week on earth in an emotionally charged performance, conceived to convey through music, drama and set design the symbolism of the days leading up to the Saviour’s Resurrection.

Featuring a repertoire of Romanian and international sacred music, the programme, dedicated to Christianity’s greatest feast, includes excerpts from the celebrated „Florilegiu bizantin” – the impressive collection of Easter music compiled by Marin Constantin, founder of the Madrigal Choir, „Prohodul Domnului” in Nicolae Lungu’s arrangement, or „Credo” (excerpts from „Missa în do minor”) by W. A. Mozart, as well as many other iconic compositions.

The profound and moving artistic experience will be complemented by sacred and lyrical texts performed by actors Marius Turdeanu and Richard Bovnoczki, as well as by the voices of children from the choirs of the Cantus Mundi National Programme.
